The evening teas in the Bata Villa are one of the renowned social and cultural events in Zlín. And they were also among them at the end of the 1920s, when Marie Baťa together with her husband Tomáš started to organize them in their house.
The premises of the villa became a cosy place for pleasant gatherings of people who were mainly interested in culture and art, but also interested in all social events. But the aim of the irregular gatherings was not only to mediate a given artistic experience; it was also important to bring people together, who were to take away new relationships across Bata and city life.
The Bata family invited prominent residents of Zlín, as well as, for example, executives and ordinary Bata workers. Social status played no role in this case, everyone was welcome.
During the themed evenings, tea was regularly served in the villa, but also wine or mixed drinks and savoury pastries of the time. As Marie Baťa was an excellent hostess with refined taste, she had no problem with organizing the Evening Teas.
Since 2022, the Thomas Bata Foundation has been successfully continuing this tradition and preparing a rich cultural programme for the general public eight times a month. In the Bata Villa you can visit thematic talks, chamber concerts and interesting lectures. All this with the smell of great tea and delicious homemade sweets.
